The Cold War refers to the cool relations between the Western powers (including Canada) and communist countries dominated by the Soviet Union. The Cold War, characterized by fear and mistrust, grew out of the unwillingness of the US and Britain to accept communist control over eastern Europe at the end of WWII. The Cold War lasted until the fall of communism in the early 1990s.
